Igor Skaletsky (b.1999) Russia
Igor Skaletsky studied at the Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute
and he took up collage only three years ago. “Collage was not very
welcome at the institute but, inspired by works of some modern artists,
I decided to go beyond traditional painting and started mixing painting
with collage”.
Igor works as an illustrator and collage is his favourite technique in creating images. So, whenever possible (and if the client agrees), he makes it a part of his professional work. He likes to work in both digital and analogue techniques, but is more inclined towards the traditional collage because it gives him the ability to mix it with painting.
When starting a new work, Igor has a plan, but
it can change on the fly, and the result often is not what he initially
had in mind. “Collage for me is a technique that widens possibilities
to express myself. I think photography and painting perfectly complement
each other and combining them, one can achieve an effect which is impossible
in ”pure” traditional technique. Collage is unique in its
ability to organically combine thin gs which, at first glance, are absolutely
incompatible and do not represent any artistic value in themselves. I
like the moment when isolated pieces of paper suddenly start “playing”
with each other when I put them in the common living space of collage.”
