Piotr Golonka (b. 1981) Krakow, Poland
At the age of 21, after years of drawing, photographing, musicmaking and designing clothes, Piotr Golonka started making collages. “I am totally self-taught in making collages and from the start it was my own invention.” Later in life he studied graphic design at Krakowska Szkoa Wyzsza.

“Making collages is a result of my exploring a variety of forms and looking for my own style. And now it is the most inspiring art form for me as it is a meeting of materials, different kinds of texture, shapes and objects that would have very little chance to meet in any other kind of reality. It is the main appeal of a collage for both the practitioner and the viewer.”

Piotr also really enjoys the idea of giving new existence to old, seemingly useless stuff. When he creates a collage he uses a variety of sources, mixing papers with other materials which he finds in old factories, the cellars and attics of old houses. Sometimes his collage making turns into a long analytical process, which “sounds like I was working in a laboratory! I try to find the most proper place for each piece and I want all of them to fit perfectly to each other.”
